REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MOSCOW -- The provincial government of Jakarta, Indonesia, and city government of Moscow, Russia, have extended a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on sister city cooperation.

Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat and Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin have signed the MoU on Thursday, Moscow local time.

Under the MoU, Hidayat expects to replicate and implement Moscow's existing urban planning system in Jakarta, especially in terms of public transport.

"The roads (here) are almost identical to those in Jakarta, with the same traffic jams, but the integrated subway is very nice and enjoyed by the public," he informed Antara during a dinner at the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow, Thursday evening.

Through an MoU that has just been extended after it was first signed in 2006, Jakarta will attempt to implement Moscow's method in the construction of Mass Rapid Transit and Light Rail Transit that have been currently carried out in the Big Durian.

Meanwhile, Moscow is keen to develop cooperation in the field of sports.

"They need badminton coaches from Indonesia, while we need coaches for gymnastics, wrestling, volleyball, swimming, and football," Hidayat pointed out.

Hidayat and his wife are participating in the 2nd Indonesia Festival held by the embassy on Aug 4-6.

During the festival, Indonesia's capital will feature various handicraft products managed by the National Handicraft Council (Dekranas) of DKI Jakarta.
