REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- The Republic of Singapore Air Force and the Indonesian Air Force are holding a joint military exercise named "Manyar Indopura 2017" at the Indonesian Air Force Base, Roesmin Nurjadin, in Pekanbaru, Riau.

"Three squadrons are involved in the exercise comprising Squadron 6 and 8 from Indonesia as well as Squadron 126 from Singapore," Exercise Director Lt Col Suryo Patmonobo noted here on Wednesday.

Patmonobo, who also serves as commander of air squadron 6 from Atang Sendjaya in Bogor, West Java, said four Super Puma helicopters are involved in the joint exercise, two each from Indonesia and Singapore.

Some 50 personnel are participating in the exercise to be held on July 19-25.

According to Patmonobo, this year's annual joint exercise of Manyar Indopura will focus on medical treatment during and post combat.

"The exercise comprises medical evacuation, dropping of logistics, and combat search and rescue operations," he said, adding that the joint exercise had been held 15 times.

Meanwhile, Roesmin Nurjadin Air Force Commander First Marshal Age Wiraksono expressed hope that all personnel participating in the exercise would prioritize safety.

Roesmin Nurjadin is the only type A military base in Sumatra. The base is now reinforced with two combat squadrons -- Air Squadron 12 and 16 -- with Hawk 100/200 and F16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets.
