REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Bambang Brodjonegoro assessed that Jakarta's burden is already too heavy. In his opinion, it's because Jakarta is not only the capital of the country, but also center of national economic activities.
"Jakarta's burden is too heavy because it's the center of everything. I am put it up so that all realized that our economic growth can not only rely solely on Jakarta, but also the spread of new growth centers," Bambang said on Tuesday (July 11).
Jakarta currently does not only serve as the center of government, but also as a financial centers as well as business in the country. Bappenas itself was asked by President Joko Widodo to conduct a deep and comprehensive study related to the the plan to relocate the capital city.
The purpose of capital city relocation is to reduce the burden of Jakarta.

Until now, Bappenas is still reviewing the plan to relocate the capital of the country from Jakarta to new territory outside Java. It's because outside Java island assessed has more adequate land.
But Bambang as the Head of Bappenas has not specified the location of the destination for the relocation of the country's capital.
Kalimantan is touted as a destination for the removal of the capital.
Nevertheless Bambang had said there are several candidate cities that have the potential to become the new capital.
He admitted one of the new capital candidates is Palangkaraya, Center Kalimantan. It was also initiated by the first president of Indonesia, Soekarno in the 1950.
Bambang said the Bappenas team is still analyzing the criteria of region, the readiness and availbility of land, and the source the funding for the construction of the new capital.
The plan to relocate of the capital reappeared as it assessed the need for the establishment of new economic center. Java is considered to dominate Indonesia's economic activity. Even that the economic activity in Java is more concentrated in Jabodetabek areas.
