REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR -- The Office of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs and the Agriculture Ministry will designate July 24 as Indonesia's Floriculture Day to promote the country's ornamental plant business.

"The launch of Indonesia's Floriculture Day will be held at the Office of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, coinciding with the 2017 Indonesian Floriculture Expo," Syarifah Iis Aisyah of the Indonesian Floriculture organizing committee stated after a meeting with the mayor of Bogor, here, Tuesday.

Indonesian Floriculture Expo, initially called the Nusantara Flora and Fruit Festival, is organized regularly by the Bogor University of Agriculture since 2013.

The festival is a campaign to promote the domestic fruit and flower businesses, to reduce imports, and to encourage the public to love domestic fruits and flowers.

In 2015, President Joko Widodo had suggested to upgrade the festival into an international event and to be developed into two separate events: one for fruits and the other for flowers.

"The objective is to make the events more focused," Aisyah noted.

This year's Indonesian Floriculture Day will feature a series of activities aimed at boosting the revival of the floriculture industry in the country.

The event will be organized jointly by the Agriculture Ministry, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Office, Bogor municipal administration, Indonesian Flower Association, Association of Horticulture and Agronomic Students of IPB, Agrisocio, and the Association of IPB's Agronomic Alumni.

The expo will be held for three days, starting July 24. On July 29, a seminar on ornamental plants will be held, and on the next day, the Indonesian Floriculture Festival and Parade will be organized at the Bogor Botanical Garden.

"In addition to a parade of flower-decorated vehicles, several other activities, such as an agriculture bourse, culinary bourse, contests, fashion show, talk show, and marching band show will be organized," she added.
