KPU expects certainty of general election budget

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – A Commissioner of General Election Commission (KPU) Ilham Saputra said the budget of General Election 2019 was expected to be decided along with the election process. KPU would discuss the budget with the House of Representatives (DPR) next week.

Previously, DPR agreed on the budget proposal for Rp15,2 trillion for the simultaneous regional election 2019. This was not included to total budged of all general elections steps.

“In a consultation next week, we will convey that the budget must be based on our activities. Do not decide the budget by neglecting our activities and steps,” he said in Jakarta on Saturday (July 8).

Certainty on budget would make KPK enable to ensure there was no mistake in the budgeting. It would ensure the budget suitable, and it could be consulted to the related parties.

“The Rp15.2 trillion of budget is still being discussed. After meeting the DPR, we would be called to BPK and meet the interior ministry,” he said.

Previously, Chairman of KPU Arief Budiman said Rp15.2 trillion were allocated to pay the steps of general election. It allocated for the nomination process, data updating, recruitment and incentive, socialization, campaign and logistics.

He said there were two types of logistics, namely the voting logistics and non-voting logistics. The funds for both types were based on the production schedule. Remaining funds for general election 2019 would be formulated in 2018. Arief was reluctant to give the detail. He estimated an increase of general election 2019 budget from 2014.
