REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – A member of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok)'s legal team, I Wayan Sudirta, said transferring his client imprisonment to Mako Brimob Detention Center was a right choice. He believed Cipinang Correctional Institution at East Jakarta condition was not possible to guarantee Ahok's safety.
“The prison officer considers that Mako Brimob Detention Center is appropriate as Cipinang prison is not possible," said Wayan on Thursday (June 22).
Wayan said the policy must be supported as it did not only consider the place of detention but the equal status of each prisoners. "Mr. Basuki is also a prisoner who have right to get security,” said him.
Wayan remarked, Ahok was known as an anti-corruption figure. Many people did not like the former Jakarta Governor. There would be some parties who were disadvantaged by the policy. It might be dissatisfied them.
“It is important and this decision is based on the study, the intelligence data. So that this is not a sudden decision because it was a follow-up conclusion and previous analysis, based on previous data,” Wayan explained.
In practice, said Wayan, there were rules related to the placement of prisoners. Unless there new policy, for example the prisoner made mistake, he could be moved.
"If the placement is for security as long as Mr. Ahok does not make any mistake, it usually does not change, especially if he can do something good there," he explained.
Ahok was sentenced to two years in prison for religious blasphemy. The verdict was read by the Chief Judge Dwiarso Budi Santiarto in a court verdict held at the Auditorium of the Ministry of Agriculture Building, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (May 9).
