REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- In a voice recorded remarked, Habib Rizieq Shihab stated his appreciation to the consolidation of the National Movement to Safeguard the Indonesian Council of Ulema (GNPF MUI), Friday (June 16).

Speaking from Mecca, Saudi Arabia, he argued the consolidation is a form of intelligent resistance against criminalization to ulemas and activists.

Habib Rizieq considered consolidation as intelligent resistance to injustice. The event would be an effective and productive way to absorb expert opinions regarding cases that strangled ulemas and activists.

The event was held to discuss electronic evidence in the case of alleged steamy chat between Habib Rizieq and Firza Husein. Habib Rizieq said experts opinion are important to be disseminated to prevent the people from being trapped by opinion that was engineered and misleading opinion derived from slander and lies.

He asserted his departure to the Holy Land is not an escape. He missed twice of the summons by the police since leaving Jakarta to perform umrah. "I did not run away from legal responsibility, but I did it as a form of resistance against injustice, falsehood and the inappropriate law enforcement," he explained on Friday.

On May 29, 2017, Habib Rizieq was officially named as a suspect in the pornographic case after screenshots of sexually explicit WhatsApp chats that allegedly happened between Habib Rizieq and a treason suspect Firza Husein went viral.
