REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A member of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said police should be professional and fair in handling what so called as intimidation to an alleged hatred spreader in social media. He said the police should refer to the Criminal Code and Indonesian criminal law in doing its task and not to follow some people’s opinion. 

Dasco said the case should not be called as persecution. He explained, in the international law persecution is related to sentiment and hatred between races. 

“The term persecution is too sinister and excessive when linked to the cases in Jakarta,” said the Gerindra party politician in a press release received by Republika.co.id on Sunday (June 4). 

Dasco said the most important thing was that the National Police enforced the law fairly and professionally. He urged the police not to take a quick action on an illegal raid while the alleged coup plot case in a region that wanted to declare its independence was handled very late. 

"National Police should not acted uneven, only take action on a certain case while letting other parties to break the law,” he said.
