REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The General Election Commission (KPU) has urged lawmakers and the government to finalize the revision of the law on general election soon.

"We hope that it would be finalized soon, as we have agreed that voting would be held in April 2019. We cannot retreat. The voting day was set in April, and time is running out," KPU Chairman Arief Budiman stated here, Wednesday.

Budiman reiterated that the commission had called on the government to approve the law as soon as possible since it would be used as a legal basis for the general election process in 2019.

"It is important for us to have the law approved soon to not only manage the election schedule but also to arrange the budget, personnel, and several other matters," he revealed.

Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo had earlier noted that the revision of the law is expected to be completed in May.

Meanwhile Budiman said the commission is codifying KPU's regulation to facilitate the public as well as the general election contestants and organizers to find the regulation they need.

In addition to KPU's regulation, the codification will include decrees and circulars issued by the commission.

"In principle, there are not many changes, and we only organize it, for instance, the regulation on logistics. We codify it to make it easy for the public, contestants, and election organizers to find them," he added.
