Meat stocks safe for three months ahead: Bulog

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The President Director of Indonesian Logistics Bureau Djarot Kusumayakti said the institution had prepared frozen buffalo meat and beef for three months. Thirty seven thousand tons of buffalo meat and 300 tons of beef were imported from India. 

“The stocks is predicted to be safe for two or three months,” said Djarot at his office in Kelapa Gading on Wednesday (May 17). 

On the same occasion, Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said the new stock of 51 thousand tons of buffalo meat would come to Indonesia. It hoped to stabilize the price of frozen meat ahead to Ramadhan and Eid 2017. The retail price decided by Trade Ministry was Rp 80.000 per kilogram. 

“No shortage of meat. Bulog will prepare as the needs,” said the minister. 

National needs of meat during Ramadhan and Eid was estimated to reach 100 thousand tons. The Chairman of Beef Committee of Jakarta Sarman Simanjorang said, the increasing meat consumption during Ramadhan commonly reaches 100 percents. It was encouraged by the many breaking the fast agenda. It was dominated by restaurants and caterings. 

A week before Ramadhan, meat consumption jumped up to 300 percents. Sarman said the fantastic jump was dominated by domestic consumption and meat processing industry, such as cornet and sausage companies. They usually increased their load of production two weeks during Eid.
