Komnas HAM processes reports on alleged ulemas criminalization

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – National Commission of Human Rights (Komnas HAM) had received a report on alleged criminalization and coup plot accusation to ulemas and activists. Recently, Komnas HAM had taken a monitoring and investigation to prove it.

Commissioner of Monitoring and investigation sub-commission in Komnas HAM, Natalius Pigai said, the alumnus of 212 Rally reported some cases related to alleged criminalization and coup plot accusation to ulemas and activists. They also reported alleged terror case to ulemas, including Habib Rizieq Shihab and Novel Baswedan.

“Therefore, Komnas HAM had taken some steps as its duty,” said Pigai to Republika.co.id after meeting the 212 alumni who signed a petition on a kilometer of fabrics in front of Komnas HAM’s office on Friday (May 12).

He explained that the duty of Komnas HAM was to accept any complain, to process, and to follow up through a monitoring and investigation. Komnas HAM’s monitoring and evaluation aimed at finding whether there were criminalization, terror, and coup plot accusation.

He explained that Komnas HAM had asked information from the alleged victims of criminalization. On Friday, Komnas also asked information from the other victims. The institution would still asked information from alleged criminalization and coup plot accusation victims until next week.

Pigai said that Komnas HAM had conducted a meeting with National Police Chief. “And then, later we continue the more technical meeting to dig and measure human right’s perception related to law enforcement with police and prosecutors,” he said.

After that, Komnas HAM would conduct meeting with Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law, and Security and other parties. Komnas HAM would also meet some people to share their perspectives.

He insisted that all processes to find data, facts, and information related to the incidents reported by 212 alumni to Komnas HAM. “At the end, whether there were alleged human right violation, the result of Komnas HAM’s recommendation, we would deliver it to the parties related to the follow up through a legal process appropriate to the mandatory and basis of Law No. 39 in 1999,” he said.
