REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will attend the "Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation" to be held in Beijing, China, on May 14-15.

The forum will be the highest-level international conference organized by China since the major initiative of the "Belt and Road" was put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, gaining wide support from the international community. As many as 28 heads of state and government have confirmed their attendance at the forum so far.

According to Foreign Ministry's East Asia and Pacific Director Edi Yusup, President Jokowi will attend the forum to seek opportunities that can be utilized by Indonesia under the strategy and policy that focus on connectivity and cooperation between China and the Eurasian countries.

"We need to know where this cooperation is directed to, how the synergy and cooperation will work, and what principles should be developed to make the Belt and Road initiative profitable for all the involved countries," Yusup noted at a press briefing here on Friday.

Indonesia's objective to attend the forum is also to accelerate the construction of national infrastructure projects, such as ports, toll roads, and railways.

The country, in this case, is seeking to gain support for the implementation of the blueprints of national connectivity and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations' connectivity.

During the forum, President Jokowi is scheduled to share his views in two sessions on the topics of policy and synergy for deeper cooperation and closer people-to-people contacts.

The president will also hold some bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Swiss President Doris Leuthard, Fijian Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama, Secretary General of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party's Toshihiro Nikai, and International Monetary Fund's Managing Director Christine Lagarde.
