Constitutional Court submits three names of judge candidate to replace Patrialis Akbar

Constitutional law expert Saldi Isra is one of candidate to replace Patrialis Akbar as Constitutional Court judge. Beside him, the Selection Commission also named Bernard Tanya (lecturer in Nusa Cendana University, East Nusa Tenggara) and Wicipto Suryadi (retiree of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights) as candidates.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Selection Commision of Constitutional Court Judges candidates has submitted three names of judges to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). They have met the requirement to replace the former judge Patrialis Akbar. 

"The three candidates were Saldi Isra, Bernard Tanya and Wicipto Suryadi,” said the head of the commission Harjono in a press conference in Presidential Palace on Monday (April 3).

According to Harjono, the commission had been working since February 2017. It ended by the submission of the candidates name on Monday. The total applicants of candidates were 45 people. As many as 22 applicants passed the administration test. 

“Among the 22 applicants, we conducted interviews and other tests, including checking their track record through official institutions and societies,” he said. 

Among the 22 applicants, there were 12 people passed the test. Some people decided to withdraw and leaving 11 people competed. They joined an open interview and being ranked. "Based on the rank, we chose three people to be submitted to President,” said Harjono. 

He added that Saldi Isra is an expert on Constitutional law. Meanwhile, Bernard Tanya is a lecturer in Nusa Cendana University, Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and Wicipto Suryadi is a retiree of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. 

President Jokowi had 30 working days up to April 5 to choose one of the three candidates to be judge of Constitutional Court. He also had seven days to inaugurate the chosen candidate.
