REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Forum Umat Islam (FUI) would conduct a demonstration called 313 rally with starting point located at Istiqlal Mosque on Friday (March 31). It would be held along Merdeka Timur Street, Merdeka Selatan Street, in front of Jakarta City Hall, Patung Kuda area, Merdeka Barat Street, and ended at the Presidential Palace.

The General Secretary of FUI Muhammad Al-Khathtath said some representatives would meet President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) for having a discussion. "We will send delegations to have a dialogue with Mr. President and to convey Indonesian people’s aspiration,” said al-Khathtath during a press conference in South Jakarta on Thursday (March 30).

The delegation would ask Jokowi to dismiss Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) as Jakarta Governor. He was recently being a defendant of an alleged blasphemy case. Khathtath said it was the President’s obligation to implement a regulation stated that a defendant should be revoked from its service. He gave an example of Banten Governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah who was dismissed after being a defendant of a corruption case.

Khathtath said the rally would be a peaceful action. He asked the security forces to do their duties properly. “We do not want any chaos. It is transparent. I hope the action will runs well. The security forces do their job as its function. Demonstration is protected by the Constitution. In Islamic perspective, it is amal ma’ruf nahi munkar,” he said.
