REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia has condemned the terror attack in London that resulted in five deaths and has called on the international community to unite in the fight against terrorism. "Indonesia condemns all forms of terrorism," President Joko Widodo stated at the Hang Nadim International Airport in Batam, Thursday.
A statement of the presidential press bureau quoted the president as saying that the world should unite in the fight against terrorism. The head of state has also expressed his condolences to the people and government of the UK, especially to the victims of the attack. "Indonesia has called on intensifying cooperation among countries to counter terrorism," Jokowi stressed.
There is no information on any Indonesians becoming victims of the attack that took place near the British parliament building. However, the government will continue to monitor the condition of Indonesians in the country.
The Indonesian Embassy in London has called on Indonesians to avoid visiting some areas in London, as advised by the country's police. A suspected terrorist mowed down a crowd of people on Westminster Bridge on Wednesday at around 3 p.m. local time on the anniversary of the Brussels terror attack.
He then tried to storm into the parliament but was stopped by a police officer, who died after the suspect stabbed him. The police then shot the perpetrator. At least 40 people were injured, and five people have died, including the perpetrator.
