Culture and education minister prohibits students for doing skip challenge

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Culture and Education Minister Muhadjir Effendy prohibited students for doing 'skip challenge'. He concerned over the flare of the dangerous activities.

Muhadjir appealed the principals and teachers to give special attention on their students' activity in schools. "Skip challenge is very dangerous for students. It needs firm prohibition. Teachers and principals needed to concern on students activity in schools," said the minister in a press released on Saturday (March 11). 

Muhadjir said the game had short-term and long-term negative impacts. The students pressed a person's chest very hard so the person passed out or convulsions. “What we do when we are young will impact on what we will be when we are old. It is very dangerous and have bad impact to students' health," he said. 

Muhadjir hoped the students under teachers' and the principals' assistance did not play the game. He suggested them to have positive activities to prepare their future and to express themselves. "Students activities during school time and after schools should be the schools' concern. The dangerous activities should be stopped," said him.  

He asked the parents to actively talked to their children. Parents' roles to give understanding about the risks od the dangerous activities like skip challenge was very important. 

Recently, many videos spread showed school children played skip challenge or pass-out challenge. It was a joyful and thrilling experience. The students passed out because lack of oxygen in their brain. It might cause cells damage or other vital organ paralysis. Medical practitioners had prohibit it by considering its dangerous impact. However, many people did not know its impact.
