KPK nabs his brother-in-law, Jokowi: We respect legal process

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo has reacted to the case being investigated by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) about the bribe of Directorate General of Taxation's officials by Director of PT EK Prima Ekspor Indonesia  (PT EKP). The suspect was Director of operations of PT Rakabu Sejahtera, Arif Budi Sulistyo, who is the brother-in-law of Jokowi. "Yes, please to follow legal process. We respected the legal process in the KPK," Jokowi said on Thursday (Feb 16).

According to him, all parties, including the president must respect the law enforcement, included in the KPK. He believed that the KPK was very professional in handling corruption cases.

Previously, the KPK was conducting an investigation of corruption Tax Directorate officials who allegedly received money from PT EK Prima Ekspor Indonesia to smooth their tax problems. Arif's name was mentioned because the company where he works was the partner of PT EKP.

KPK indicated there was interference from Arif, who familiar with the officials in the Directorate General of Taxation. In fact, Arif said met the Directorate General of Taxation head Ken Dwijugiasteadi to smooth the tax case.
