REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Interior Minister Tjahjo Kumolo insisted not to temporarily suspend Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) as the Jakarta governor. He believed that the Law and the indictment has multi-interpretation. "I will hold the responsibility of my decision to the president," said Tjahjo in the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.
Related to the different opinion among the society, Tjahjo said he had asked for a recommendation from the Supreme Court. However, he stated not to force the Supreme Court to issue a fatwa related to this matter.
Tjahjo said the Supreme Court had left the decision on Ahok suspension to him. "We did not force the Supreme Court to issue the recommendation. The Supreme Court had made a recommendation, to hand it to the Interior Minister," he said.
Previously, the Chairman of the Supreme Court Hatta Ali said the completion of Ahok's legal status should be handed to the Interior Minister. The recommendation issued by the Supreme Court was not binding and did not need to be followed. "The related institution (the Interior Minister) had made a decision. The ministry should made his own decision because the recommendation was not binding. You could follow it or leave it," said him.
