President Jokowi receives courtesy call from Saudi Arabia's Shura Council

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo received a courtesy call from Chairman of the Shura Council of Saudi Arabia Abdullah Muhammed Al-Alsheikh at the Merdeka Palace here on Thursday. "The visit of Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to Indonesia in March is expected to strengthen the mutually beneficial cooperation between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia," President Widodo stated here on Thursday.

President Widodo received Al-Alsheikh and his entourage at the Merdeka Palace at around 11:15 p.m. local time. On the occasion, President Widodo was accompanied by Secretary of State Pratikno, Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs A.M. Fathir. 

The Shura Council, also known as the Consultative Assembly of Saudi Arabia, is an official advisory agency for the Saudi Arabia Kingdom. The assembly has limited powers in the government, including the power to propose legislation to the King and cabinet.

The assembly has 150 members, and it was headed by a chairman. All members are appointed by the King. In addition to receiving a courtesy call from the Shura Council of Saudi Arabia, President Widodo will hold two limited cabinet meetings to evaluate the implementation of national strategic projects and priority programs in the provinces of North Sumatra and East Nusa Tenggara.
