REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Chairman of the Moon and Star Party, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, reminded Muslims to beware of the emergence of hammer and sickle symbols in many places. He said it was likely to be deliberate, systematic, and continuously to spread. “I appeal to the citizens, sympathizers, and the supporters of the Moon and Star Party, especially Muslims, to beware and be alert,” said Yusril on a short message to Republika.co.id on Friday.
Hammer and sickle was the symbol of communist and the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI). Recently ,it was emerged in Madura, near the big and influenced Islamic boarding school, Banyu Anyar Boarding School and Daarut Tauhid Boarding School.
In other areas, said Yusril, the communist symbol was often emerged and cause restlessness among the society. Yusril said the emergence of the symbol might be deliberately set by the grandchildren of the communist party symphatizers. However, it might also be a provocation to gain a certain reaction from Muslims. "In the history of politics in our country, the member of Moon and Star Party or the Masyumi Family was the Indonesian Communist Party to be killed,” he said.
Yusril said the killing and massacre to Masyumi families, were happened since the Madiun Incident in 1948. Sporadic killing were continuously happened until Masyumi was dissolved in 1960. One of the reasons was the anti-communist and anti-national religion and communist (Nasakom) perspective which were forced to accept in that era.

Now, the Indonesian was tested and was ruined, started by the emerging restlessness and suspicion of one another. This, said Yusril, was a social conflict which might encourage a civil war. By the disunited, the country would be easily fall down into the power of others.
In line with the Provisional People's Consultative Assembly (MPRS) in 1966 which was still existed, the government should take a firm action to the distributor of the communist symbols. The instruction should come from the President and should be carried out by the law enforcers in all areas of the country.
Yusril also said the member of Moon and Star Party and Masyumi families to be patient and careful, and beware of the threat which might undermine the national unity. By strengthening the faith and piety, and believe in the Islamic teaching, he said the Muslims would be able to avoid any provocation.
He added that, by understanding the meaning of Pancasila, the Indonesian would be spared of the communist provocation. “Pancasila was able to unite all element of the nation. In contrary, communism did not get any space in the country based on the Pancasila,” he said.
