REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Patriotic Advocate (ACTA) issued a testimony in the secretary of Indonesian Council of Ulama’s office in Central Jakarta on Monday. On the statement, ACTA showed its support for the chairman of the council, KH Ma’ruf Amin and to argue over the clarification of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama's (Ahok) legal advisors which was claimed to be inconsistent with the facts of the trial.
“Currently, the legal advisors of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama are making a public opinion which was inconsistent with the facts of the trial,” said the General Secretary of ACTA, Yustian Dewi Widiastuti, to reporters at MUI office, Central Jakarta.

Yustian said ACTA appreciated the effort of Ahok’s legal advisors to seek the truth by asking a number of questions to Kiai Ma’ruf. However, Yustian said there were unreasonable action conducted by one of the lawyer in the trial, namely Humphrey Djemat. "He has cornered Kiai Ma'ruf by accusing Kiai Ma'ruf was lying and he asked the panel of judges to process the witness accordingly," Yustian remarked.
Furthermore, the defendant conveyed his objection with a threat to Kiai Ma'ruf as the witness. ACTA said the threat to file a police report was not against other witnesses, but to Kiai Ma'ruf. On February 1, Ahok then denied the plan to report Kiai Ma'ruf.
ACTA noticed during the trial held on last Tuesday (Jan 31), there were group of people who clapped their hands when Ahok delivering his threat to Kiai Ma'ruf. They wore plaid shirts, the pattern known as symbol of Ahok's campaign. "It seemed like they are happy with the situation," Yustian said.

Beside that, ACTA also noted that the attorney was asking the same question repeatedly. According to ACTA, it looked like Ahok's legal advisors team were trying to prolonged the session to drain Kiai Ma'ruf's energy as a witness. "The attorney also conveyed their question without paying attention to ethics and disrespecting Kiai Ma'ruf as a grand ulema, an elderly, and a respected figure.
Therefore, ACTA asked the Judicial Commission (KY), Supreme Court (MK) and advocate organization to watch the next trial. They hope there would be no similar incident. "In seeking material truth in a law case, the legal advisors should not violate any applicable law," Yustian said.
