REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The trial of the alleged blasphemy case by Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) has reached the examination of complainant witnesses. Among these are Pedri Kasman, Irena Handono, and Syamsu Hilal.

One of the complainants considered Ahok team tried to build an opinion out of the principal case. Ahok’s legal team was ease at chasing and questioning things related to personal and tend to degrade the credibility of the witnesses. "Ahok’s team as the defendant has always tried to build the opinion by delivering statements and questions that is unproportional to the basic case and the facts revealed at the hearing," said Pedri on Friday.

As a result, he said, the trial did not focus on the subject matter. Ahok allegedly builds the opinion for the sake of his personal political matters. He said the complainant witnesses are the victims. "In fact, there is a threat from the defendant to penalize the witnesses. This will damage the legal system in Indonesia," he said.

Pedri call himself as a victim of defamation of religion did by Ahok, as well as Muslims around the world who feel its holy book to desecrated. Pedri said, as a witness, he delivered what he heard, seen, and felt on the incident. Seeing the condition, Pedri, Irena Handono, and Syamsu Hilal asked the public prosecutor to play an active role to counter irrelevant questions and statements from the defendant.

According to him, it is necessary to be done in order to maintain the honor and dignity of the trial. "This is important because the prosecutor is a state attorney who must defend the truth of the indictment," said Pedri.
