REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - TNI Commander, Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo confirmed Indonesia's decision to suspend cooperation with Australia on joint military exercises. The decision was taken due to a case of insult against Pancasila which is a symbol of the nation. "It's too painful. I do not need to explain," said Gatot at Bidakara Hotel, Jakarta, on Thursday.

However, Gatot said that during the exercises, trainers from Indonesian Military Army found that the curriculum provided for the Australian students contains some material which discredit Indonesian as a nation. Some of them are, he said, the issue of Papua to be independent and the twisted of word 'Pancasila' into 'Pancagila'.  "Knowing that, I took the trainers back and I temporary stopped (the joint exercises)," he said.

Gatot said that the Australian military forces has sent an official apology due to the incident. They also hopes to improve the curriculum and conduct an investigation into the incident.
