U.S., Singapore Embassy issue security message ahead of 212 rally

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The United States of America Embassy will be closed to the public on Friday. In spite of that, emergency services for U.S. citizens will be available.

Through id.usembassy.gov, U.S. government urged its people to avoid National Monument (Monas) area on December 2. It stated there is a possibility that some extremist groups could take advantage of the 212 rally to incite or carry out violence. "You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations," it stated.

Meanwhile, Singaporean who are in Indonesia on December 2 are advised to monitor the local media for situation updates and developments. The Embassy of the Republic of Singapore issued SMS notice regarding a large-scale event, namely 212 rally. The Embassy announced the 212 rally will be held from 08.00 am to 13.00 pm. 

Singapore Embassy said Indonesian authorities have indicated that they are making the necessary preparations for the event to proceed without additional disruption to daily activities in Jakarta. Road closure also stated as notice to Singaporean who are in Jakarta during 212 rally. Singaporean are advised to stay away from Jl MH Thamrin, Jl Sudirman, Hotel Indonesia Roundabout and Monas area to avoid any undue inconvenience. Further information are available at mfa.gov.sg
