REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Central Jakarta District Court sentenced Jessica Kumolo Wongso to 20 years in jail over the death of Wayan Mirna Salihin as had been demanded by prosecutors.

The panel of judges led by Kisworo said Jessica Kumala Wongso has been proven legally and convincingly without any doubt committed criminal act. "Jessica sentenced for 20 years and must pay court costs Rp 5,000," said judge head Kisworo who read out the verdict.

The judges also rejected all her defense plea and his legal team. According to the judges, Jessica did not admit and did not feel guilty about the assassination.

After the verdict was read out, Jessica's lawyer Otto Hasibuan said the ruling is not based on law and rings the bell of death on justice. "We would appeal the ruling," he said.

Talked with her lawyer, Jessica said, "I do not accept the ruling because it is not fair and impartial."

The case drew public attention and has been covered much.  The Metro Jaya Police had arrested Jessica since January 30 from the hotel where she was staying. The prosecutors demanded 20 years imprisonment for Jessica.

The victim died on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Kafe Olivier, Grand Indonesia Shopping Town, Central Jakarta. Wayan died after drinking a Vietnamese iced coffee ordered by her friend, Jessica Kumolo Wongso. The iced coffee allegedly laced with cyanide.
