REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG -- Central Java's Department of Culture and Tourism is gradually developing sports tourism to attract more tourists. "About 60 percent of the tourism in Central Java is on account of its nature and culture. The addition of sports tourism as a concept will draw more tourists," Chief of the Department of Culture and Tourism in Central Java, Prasetyo Aribowo, said here on Tuesday.
Prasetyo explained that the concept of sports tourism was the brainchild of Central Java Governor, Ganjar Pranowo. He mentioned that the Tempuran reservoir could host rowing activities and the area around the Borobudur Temple could become a marathon track. "All of these have a very big potential and we can gradually develop these and look for the right strategy," he argued.
Chairman of the Indonesian Hotels and Restaurants Association of Central Java Heru Isnawan welcomed the plan of Central Java?s Department of Culture and Tourism to develop the concept of sports tourism. He was optimistic that sports tourism could have a significant impact on the hospitality industry and will lead to a higher hotel occupancy rate. "Of course, the impact will also be felt in the services sector and other industries," he added.
