Death sentence for mastermind of Bengkulu gang rape

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, REJANGLEBONG -- Rejanglebong State Court judge, Bengkulu Province sentenced the death penalty on Bos or Zainal (23 years), Thursday (29/9).

Zainal is one of the accused murderer of Yy (14), junior high school student in the Rejanglebong. The eight grader died after being raped by seven teenager and seven men on April 2, 2016. Two rapists were still on the run.

Yy was found dead two days after, in six-meter-deep ravine with bruishes in the back of her body and strangulation marks.

Not only as the killer, Zainal also as mastermind of the murder.

"The defendant (Zainal) found guilty and invited as well as ordered other accused in this case," Rejanglebong State Court judge chief, Heny Farida said.

Meanwhile, four other defendants, namely Tomi Wijaya aka Tobi (19), M Suket (19), Mas Bobby (20), and Faisal or Pis (19), each sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The sentence was the same as with prosecutors demand in the previous trial. In addition, the five defendants also must pay court costs as much as Rp 2,000, as well as fine of Rp 2 billion or substitute penalty imprisonment for three months.

The five defendants were proven violated Article 340 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 to 1 Criminal Code, then Article 80 paragraph 3 and Article 81 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 76d Law No.35/2014, on the Protection of Child.

Meanwhile, in the different trial, the juvenile defendant MJE (13) was charged with one year job training.
