REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- The Riau Provincial Police is deploying two platoons of Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel to help fight land and forest fires in Rokan Hilir district, Riau province.
"We continue to increase the number of personnel to help the land and forest fire task force extinguish fires," Chief of the Riau Provincial Police Brigadier General Supriyanto said on Tuesday.
The Brimob personnel led by Commander of Brimob unit Senior Commissioner Pradah Pinunjul are now trying to put out land and forest fires in Tanah Putih sub-district, he said. Supriyanto, along with the Brimob personnel left for the district on Monday (Aug 15) to help combat the fires which continued to spread in the area.
He said a team of Riau provincial police officers had to spend the night in the scene in the sub-district for fear that fire will ravage again the land.
Besides the Brimob personnel, hundreds of police officers from the Rokan Hilir district police were also deployed to the scene.
Spokesman for the provincial police Guntur Aryo Tejo said the team also included investigators from the special crime directorate.
"The investigators also come along with us to see if land owners have been involved in the fires and to find alleged arsonists," he said.
