REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (Kemenpupera) will build five flyovers at railroad crossings in order to reduce traffic congestion.

Five flyovers will be built at Klonengan-Prupuk, Dermoleng-Ketanggungan, Karangsawah, Kretek-Paguyangan, and Kesambi. The construction is expected to spend as much as Rp 620 billion and targeted to be completed within the next eight months.

"This is one alternative to prevent the recurrence of severe traffic jam at the East Brebes Toll road exit," Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said when reviewing the location of the train crossing in Klonengan-Prupuk, Tegal, Central Java on Thursday.

When the traffic flow happen, the traffic can be routed out the toll to pass through the Pantai Utara (North Coast).

Minister Basuki said he just received a letter from the National Police Chief. The letter recommended to built the flyovers as soon as possible to avoid congestion at Eid.

Based on the reports he received, there are 72 times stops in the railroad crossing on normal day. If one stop takes five minutes, it takes six hours a day.

"When Eid, at least there will be 92 times stops because there are additional frequencies," he said.
