REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Jakarta traffic police has reprimanded 5,947 motorists for violating an odd-even license plate policy during the first six days of a trial, which began on July 27.
"The number of motorists reprimanded had increased until the sixth day of the odd-even license plate trial," the Chief of the Guidance and Law Enforcement Sub-directorate of the Traffic Directorate at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Adjunct Chief Commissioner Budiyanto said here on Thursday.
He said the number of motorists violating the policy had increased to 1,108 by Wednesday, from 848 the day before.
The Jakarta Transportation Office and the Metropolitan Police familiarized motorists with the odd-even license plate policy from June 26 to July 28.
The trial will last from July 27 to August 26 and the official implementation will start from August 27 as the electronic road pricing (ERP) system is applied.
Under the policy, motorized vehicles with odd license plates will be allowed to move on the designated routes on odd dates from 07.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. and from 04.00 p.m. to 08.00 p.m. and those with even license plates on even dates.
The policy does not apply to the president's vehicle, the vice president's vehicle, state officials' vehicles, public transport vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances and cargo trucks as per the Jakarta Governor's regulation.
