UN secretary to become keynote speaker at World Culture Forum

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki Moon, will be the keynote speaker at the World Culture Forum 2016 being held in Bali, from October 10 to 14, 2016.

"Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki Moon, Secretary General of UNESCO Irina Bokova and the third President of Indonesia BJ Habibie are scheduled to be the keynote speakers at the World Culture Forum (WCF)," Director General of Culture, Ministry of Education and Culture, Hilmar Farid, said during the socialization of WCF here on Thursday.

In addition, the King of Jordan, Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, and former General Chairman of Muhammadiyah Buya Syafii will be among the main speakers at the forum.

Farid hopes the speakers will be able to attend the international meeting.

"Irina Bokova has confirmed she will attend the meeting," Farid remarked.

Farid informed that the forum will also provide an opportunity for young people through a 12-day Youth Forum. The young people will have an opportunity to discuss a variety of important issues related to culture.

The discussion will be attended by 200 young people from a number of friendly countries.

The WCF will be attended by 1,500 participants from 40 countries.

The international conference will discuss strategic issues and recommend policies for the progress of sustainable development.

"During the WCF, we will explore local cultures that have become a basis for development in the future," Farid underlined.

This year's theme is 'Culture for an Inclusive Sustainable Planet.'
