Six-point agreement of three countries in pirates handling

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A trilateral meeting between the defense ministers of Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines held in Bali since last week has made six-point agreement.

Indonesia's Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said the six-point comprise of joint patrols, emergency assistance, exchange of intelligence information, communications hotline, joint exercise, and automatic identification systems.

Foreign Minister explained that a trilateral meeting in Bali is follow up of the previous trilateral meeting that was held on 14th July in Malaysia. Retno added, as many as two items mentioned about the strengthening of the framework agreement that produced from the previous meeting in Malaysia. The strengthening of the point is joint exercises and automatic identification.

"We hope the agreement which made by the defense ministers can be immediately implemented. Because it is very important that concrete cooperation can be done immediately to avoid the occurrence of kidnapping in the future," she said at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday (3/8).

As for the current condition of the hostages, the government ensures tenth Indonesian citizens who being prisoners of the Abu Sayyaf in good health. Retno said the government continues trying to liberate the hostages and prioritize hostages’ health.

"We keep contact and yesterday we were talked with the family. We assure the family, the government's commitment to free the hostages as soon as possible," Retno said.
