REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JEMBER -- A total of nine participants from five countries attended the 2nd International Cultural Camp at Jember University (Unej) that was inaugurated by Unej's Rector, Moh Hasan, at the Rectorate Building, Campus Unej, East Java, Monday.
Chairman of the event Aditya Wardhana affirmed that the International Cultural Camp was a program organized by Unej for foreign students from partner universities to work together overseas.
"The 2nd International Cultural Camp was attended by nine participants from five countries, such as Germany, Great Britain, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Myanmar," he noted in Jember.
According to Wardhana, the program aims to introduce the culture and environment of the Tegalboto Campus Unej and offer insights into the language, arts, life, and local wisdom, as well as the natural beauty of Jember and the surrounding areas.
"The program was created to make Unej a world-class university, so for its implementation, Unej coordinated with the Office of International Affairs and a few parties in the local campus," he remarked.
Wardhana explained that the Unej International Cultural Camp gave international students an opportunity to not only gain inter-cultural experiences but also to develop an understanding of the culture and local wisdom, environment, as well as agriculture and industry in Jember Regency.
"Foreign students will be invited to visit several attractions in Jember, such as the White Sand Malikan Beach and Mount Ijen, followed by a training on Indonesian language for non-native speakers (BIPA), and exploring the local culture through dance, gamelan music, batik, martial arts, pencak silat, traditional games, and national and local songs," he explained.
Moreover, Wardhana noted that the students were invited to visit several micro, small, and medium enterprises, to observe the cultivation of tobacco and coffee in the agricultural areas of Jember, and to visit the cocoa research center.
Jember University Rector Hasan stated that the difference in the implementation of the Unej International Cultural Camp this time was that the participants would not only be able to gain experience and knowledge in Jember but would also be required to serve as the ambassadors of Unej to reintroduce products from Jember in their respective countries.
"With the participants at the Unej International Cultural Camp acting as ambassadors for Jember University, we expect the Tegalboto Campus Unej will gain global recognition," he added.
