REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - A member of Regional Representatives Council (DPD) from Jakarta area Fahira Idris said survey from Central Statistics Agency (BPS) is reality in the Capital of Indonesia this present. BPS survey mentioned the poverty rate in the Jakarta has increased as many as 0.3 percent, or about 300,000 people.

"The rise in the poverty rate in Jakarta based on BPS survey is a reality that occurs in Jakarta currently, so I agree with the data from BPS," she said, Thursday (21/7).

Fahira said Jakarta as the most developed provinces in Indonesia the center of all economic activities. So Jakarta should consequently more advanced in terms of increased of poverty rate. But she was disappointed because of the widening gap between rich and poor.

"It's not about how bad the poverty level, but more to the extent of the gap between the rich and the poor in this capital city," she said.

According to Fahira, rather than questioning the survey, Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) better focus on poverty alleviation programs.

"It's the biggest homework of the Jakarta Provicnsial Government how to shorten the gap between rich and poor," she argued.
