REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PADANG -- The Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) Service of Padang, West Sumatra, will hold the International Cooperatives Conference (KKI) on July 24-26, 2016.
Head of the UMKM of Padang Yunisman stated in the city on Thursday that the KKI will be held through collaboration between the government, West Sumatra Province, and Padang City. The conference will be inaugurated by Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Anak Agung Gede Ngurah Puspayoga on July 24 in Padang.
Yunisman noted that the UMKM of Padang had invited former minister of cooperatives Adi Sasono, writers of 30 e-papers from universities in Indonesia, as well as other experts from abroad to act as guest speakers at the conference.
He said the UMKM of Padang had invited 400 cooperatives in Indonesia to enliven the KKI.
Yunisman added that the UMKM of Padang will organize a bazaar in Taman Melati, Padang, which will feature their products, so that the event can serve as a promotional platform.
Vice Chairman of the Board of Cooperatives of Indonesia for the West Sumatra region Yulhendri lauded the KKI for motivating cooperatives in Indonesia, particularly in West Sumatra.
"I think this is an award for entrusting West Sumatra for organizing international conferences," he stated.
He hoped the KKI will motivate the people to revitalize the UMKM as developed countries gave priority to cooperatives to boost their economies.
"The people of Canada have prioritized cooperation as the main driver of the economy since they believe that solidarity and cooperation will help to create a great nation," he added.
