Minister: G-20 creates labour quality improvement declaration

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The G-20 labor ministers meeting in Beijing, China has resulted in a joint declaration, which includes efforts to improve the quality of work, improve the quality of workforce skills and create employment opportunities.

"This declaration contains a joint agreement on policy recommendation for the reduction of unemployment, improvement of skills based on the labor market, improving the quality of apprenticeships and the principles of sustainable wage policy that are rational and coherent," Minister of Employment M Hanif Dhakiri said in a press statement received by Antara here on Thursday.

Minister Hanif was attending the Labor Ministers Meeting in Beijing, China, on July 12 and 13, which was also attended by officials of the International Labor Organization (ILO), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

During the meeting, the minister also discussed joint efforts to set up a strategy for economic growth and employment planning for the expected favorable employment sector in their respective countries.

"The labor ministers agreed that economic growth must be accompanied by an expansion of employment opportunities, enjoyed by the public, workers and employers so as to create inclusive growth," Hanif said.

Minister Hanif believes that the G-20 Working Group will be able to implement the declaration statues in their respective countries.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian government has issued a number of policies and programs related to compliance with the Labor Law, namely to reduce gender inequality, disability in employment, empowerment and protection for Indonesian migrant workers, promotion of the entrepreneurship program and the implementation of occupational safety and health in the working in an integrated manner.
