REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KARANGANYAR -- Like many other Indonesians, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visited the cemetery where his grandfather is buried to pay his respects on the occasion of Eid-al-Fitr in Karanganyar, Central Java, on Thursday.

After distributing food packages among residents of the village Kragan, President Jokowi immediately left for the cemetery located at a distance of about one kilometer from the village to pray for his grandfather Lamidi Wiryo Mihardjo.

He was accompanied by a number of his relatives and solemnly prayed for one of his ancestors.

Lamidi used to be the head of Kragan and was popularly called Lurah Dongkol.

Noto Mihardjo, Jokowi's father, was the first child born out of the marriage of Lamidi and Painem.

President Jokowi spent part of his childhood at the home of his grandfather.

The president said he would travel on foot, by bus and by raft to cross the Bengawan Solo River to visit his grandfather.

"To come here, I had to ride a bus through Kebakkramat and then travel on foot and aboard a raft to cross the Bengawan Solo," he said.

After visiting the cemetery, President Jokowi and his entourage returned to his private home in the village of Sumber, Banjarsari, Surakarta.
