REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- House Speaker Ade Komarudin has questioned the performance of the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) in curbing the circulation of fake vaccines since 2003.

"Of course, this has something to do with the negligence of BPOM in overseeing the circulation of vaccines in the community," the House speaker stated at the Nusantara-II building here on Monday.

Komarudin questioned the BPOM's performance since such a case should not have been allowed to occur as it concerns public health.

Komarudin noted that if the case was ignored, it would have dire and wide-ranging impacts on the community.

"I think this is an important case, and therefore, I urged the House's Commission IX to deal with it firmly," he remarked.

According to Komarudin, a system to prevent the circulation of fake vaccines is in place, and so, if it occurred, it is due to the negligence of the BPOM.

The National Police Directorate of Special Economic Crimes and the Criminal Investigation Unit had earlier arrested 10 people who had allegedly manufactured fake vaccines.
