REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Scientist from Indonesia, Dr Taruna Ikrar, became one of the researchers whose work was ubmitted by the University of California to fill the opportunity of nominations Nobel Prize 2016 in medicine.

"Yes, It has been proposed by the University of California, in the category of Optogenetic, Physiology of Medicine," Taruna Ikrar told to Republika on Saturday (18/6).

Taruna, a lecturer at the University of California, Irvine, USA, is one of the team that successfully developed optogenetic laser stimulation. Besides Taruna, there are two other people were involved in these research namely the scientist from Stanford University, Dr. Ivan Soltesz, citizens of Hungary and the US and, Dr Amar Sahay, a US citizen, a scientist from Harvard University.

Taruna explained, optogenetic is a method to make the active or non-active nerve cells (neurons) in the brain by using specific light spectrum.

"Later, this technique can be used in the treatment of diseases in the brain, such as Parkinson, Epilepsy, Schizophrenia, and others. I will describe more detail after set Now, still the process of submission of the nominee," he continued.

Dr Taruna Ikrar MPharm MD PhD concern is in pharmaceuticals, heart and nerves. So far, he has made 54 important discoveries. Two of them are has been patented and used by various educational institutions and medical world.

In 2009, Taruna Ikrar patented method of mapping the human brain that successfully describes the dynamics of these organs in detail. Based on the official website of the Nobel Prize, a prestigious award nomination can only be done by certain parties, by the invitation of the Nobel Prize Committee. There are 273 scientists who have been nominated for the Nobel Prize 2016 in medicine. During the months of June through August, the Nobel Prize Committee will be doing evaluation to select the names that have been submitted. In October, it will be announced to anyone who is nominated in the Nobel Prize event.
