REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KULON PROGO -- The land compensation for the Kulon Progo airport project in Yogyakarta is estimated to soar to Rp3.5 trillion or more than doubling previous estimate of Rp1.6 trillion.

Kulon Progo Regent Hasto Wardoyo said independent team of appraisers has finished the first phase of appraising the value of land to be used for the airport project.

"Beyond our expectation the preliminary estimate of the compensation exceeds Rp3.5 trillion," Hasto said here on Tuesday.

Hasto, therefore, appealed for support from the people that the project could be carried out despite the surge in estimated cost.

He said the process has started to build the airport which would contribute greatly to improving the welfare of the Kulon Progo district.

Chairman of the team of appraisers Uswatun Khasanah said that the result of the appraisal has been handed over to the regional land office (BPN).
