No Indonesian victims in UCLA shooting spree

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that there are no Indonesian citizens among the victims of a shooting that occurred on the campus of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), United States, on Wednesday.

"I received a report from the Indonesian Consulate General in Los Angeles that there are no Indonesian citizens among the victims in the UCLA campus shooting," said Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi in a press statement received here, Thursday.

Minister Marsudi obtained information from the Consulate General in LA that on Wednesday, June 1, at 10.00 am local time, a shooting incident occurred on the campus of UCLA, which was allegedly carried out by four men wearing black uniforms.

The campus security authorities immediately shut down the UCLA campus area, which covers about 419 thousand hectares, at 10:44 am.

At 11:53 am, campus authorities announced that there had been two male casualties.

Foreign Minister Retno said that the Consulate General in LA is carefully monitoring the situation and assigned three staff members from the Consulate General to review the situation on the ground and coordinate with local security forces.

The Indonesian Consulate in Los Angeles also continues to communicate with students and faculty citizens residing on the campus through the instant messaging application "WhatsApp".

At approximately 12:10 pm, the Los Angeles Police Chief announced that the UCLA campus has been declared safe and described the incident as a "murder-suicide case", with one offender and one victim being found dead.

Local police continue searching the area to evacuate the campus and students who were at the site.
