REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AMBON -- The Attorney General's Office (AGO) has educated several prosecutors on law enforcement in the maritime and fisheries sector.

Prosecutors, who had undergone the training, were assigned to various regions prone to maritime- and fishery-related crimes, Attorney General HM Prasetyo stated during a national seminar on legal enforcement synergy in the maritime nation, here, Tuesday.

Indonesia comprises over 17 thousand islands, and 70 percent of its geographical territory constitutes seas, which are rich in natural resources, flora, and fauna.

Therefore, the nation's assets must be protected, particularly from illegal fishing activities, he emphasized.

Moreover, the Indonesian government has intensified its fight against illegal fishing activities and has destroyed fishing boats caught poaching in its seas.

Prasetyo lauded a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to be signed between the Law Faculty of the University of Pattimura and the Maluku Prosecutor's Office.

The MoU will encourage deeper interaction between local legal enforcers and academicians.
