African countries expect scholarship in fishery education from Indonesia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BALI -- Several African countries are expecting scholarship in fishery education program from Indonesia to improve their capacity in the field.

Clemetain reprrsenting participants from six African countries said he was amazed at the fisheries development in Indonesia including the fish catching process and the equipment used to process fish as well as technology used in fish culture.

He said they hoped they could pursue education in the field of fishery in Indonesia as a follow up on human resource development after participating in the training program.

"I am gkad if we can further our study in fishery here," he said.

He said although Zimbabwe has no sea it has lakes and rivers and so the fishery sector in that country exists.

The training program was participated in by 19 participants consisting of 12 from African countries and seven from Indonesian eastern regions such as North Maluku and East Nusa Tenggara.

Ghafur Akbar Dharma Putra representing the director general of information and public diplomacy of the ministry of foreign affairs, said in response to the wish that his office would accommodate the aspiration.

"We thank for the suggestion regarding education. We hope the ministry of fisheries and marine resources as well as the ministry of education would study the possibility for you and from other countries to get scholarships for PhD program in fishery in Indonesia," he said.

The training program was organized by the Directorate of Technical Cooperation of the Directorate General of Information and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Fishery and Marine Human Resource Development Agency of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources and Fishery training service of the Banyuwangi district in East Java.
