Muhammadiyah Grants Scholarship for Palestinian Students

Muhammadiyah invites Palestinian youth to study for free in Indonesia.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The second largest Muslim organizations in Indonesia, Muhammadiyah, has consistently developed schools, universities, and research centers both domestically and internationally. Up to now, it has more than 170 colleges and universities spread across Indonesia with various faculties and departments. 

The General Secretary of the Executive Board of Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu'ti said, Muhammadiyah opens up opportunities for global youth to study in Muhammadiyah's universities. Currently, this Islamic organization is offering scholarships for Palestinian students to pursue bachelor's and master's programs at Muhammadiyah universities in Indonesia.

This pro-Palestinian scholarship program started in 2020. Now, the program is entering its third year.  

“In Indonesia, many Palestinians study at Muhammadiyah's universities, both for bachelor's and master's programs. It has been going on for a long time,” he told Republika on Wednesday (8/11/2023).

In addition, Muhammadiyah also offers free Short Course program to Palestinians who are interested in adding knowledge about certain studies, i.e Islamic studies. Muhammadiyah scholarships cover the entire tuition and living expenses. It also supported by LazizMu, Baznas, and Quantum Akhyar Institute.

Although the war is still raging in Palestine, Muhammadiyah still supports this program. Because this program is beneficial for the development of Palestinian human resources.

Every student who gets a scholarship both bachelor's and master's will receive tuition fees, living allowance, Bridging Course, completion allowance, airfare, health insurance, as well as visa. 

The universities providing scholarships for palestinian students this year include, undergraduate programs in Ikast Muhammadiyah Palembang, IKIP Muhammadiyah Maumere, Ahmad Dahlan University, Muhammadiyah Universities in Bangka Belitung, Bengkulu, Buton, Lamongan, Magelang, Makassar, North Maluku, Palembang, West Sumatra, Surabaya, Tangerang and Yogyakarta.

For the master's program, the Muhammadiyah campuses targeted for this scholarship program are Ahmad Dahlan University, Muhammadiyah University in Gresik, Jember, Magelang, Makassar, Metro (Lampung), Palembang, Jakarta, Semarang, Surabaya, Surakarta, Tangerang and Yogyakarta.

“Every year about 40 students are accepted through the Muhammadiyah Scholarship for Palestinian Students," Abdul Mu'ti said.

Palestinian students who are interested in obtaining this scholarship can apply via https://scholarship.diktilitbangmuhammadiyah.org. Online application process must be completed by November 30, 2023. The results of the selection will be announced on 17 December 2023. The interview will be conducted on December 24-30, 2023.

The results of the interview test will be announced on January 14, 2024. Recipients of the Master Program scholarship are expected to arrive in Jakarta on March 4, 2024.
