Prices of staples in Padang still normal

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PADANG - Mayor of Padang, West Sumatra, Mahyeldi Ansar ensure that some of the prices of basic commodities in the area is still normal in the week ahead of Ramadan 1437 AH.

“During the inspection a few staples such as meat, fish, eggs and chili prices are still stable," he said during an inspection tour of Pasar Raya Padang, Monday (30/5).

Based on observations and interviews with a number of merchants Mahyeldi, a few of the prices of basic necessities such as red chili about Rp20 thousand per kilogram, beef Rp110 thousand per kilogram, chicken Rp22 thousand per kilogram and eggs Rp22.400 per kilogram. This amount, according to him is still stable and almost the same as within last week price range.

"This form a positive response for trader on that the government should play with the price ahead of Ramadan," he said.

He hoped that this price stability could be sustained when approaching the month of fasting, the fasting month and ahead of Idul Fitri. He said traders had to adjust prices to the market.

"When the market rises so the price goes up, if it still remains," he said.

In addition to carrying out inspections of food prices, it also inspect food hygiene and purity of the material and the availability of goods. "The availability of the goods is sufficient and there is no harmful substances found in the food; so far the the staple is safe," he said.
