Sexual education a must for Children

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA - Criminologist of Gadjah Mada University Suprapto said educational institutions or parents should not be taboo of giving sexual education for children because of sexual abuse on minors.

"Besides moral education, sexual education for children has become needs in view of the number of sexual violence cases is increasing," said Suprapto in Yogyakarta, on Monday (16/5).

He continued, through sexual education, children can respect and do not harass part of their own body or others. Sexual education can make children know the functions and differences in reproductive organs.

Children are also expected to respect women who often become the object of sexual violence.

"So it is important given to children, both at school and in the family environment," he said.

However, he added, sexual education is still considered taboo and unfamiliar, to date sexual assault cases have not been able to pressed downed significantly.

"The concept to application may be packaged in multilevel according to age, which needs to be started," he said.

On the other hand, the parents asked do not be ignorant and too give freedom to the child without control and association. They need to monitor carefully all activities of children, particularly those routine at outside the school.

"During this time the parents do not care when the children gather in house and doing the  certain activities routinely, thus it need to be monitored. Parents should be more incentive to feel suspicious of child growth," he said.
