REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo has written to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), apologizing for not attending the inauguration of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) members for the 2016-2020 period.

"I could not attend the inauguration in my capacity as Kompolnas deputy chairman. In principle, it was my fault. Tonight, I wrote to President Joko Widodo, apologizing for the same. I am ready to take the blame," the minister said here on Friday night.

Tjahjo explained that he could not attend the inauguration as the train he traveled by to Jakarta from Purwokerto, Central Java, was late.

The minister left Jakarta for Purwokerto by train on Friday morning to give certain directives to sub-district heads and other local officials.

"The train arrived at Purwokerto railway station at 01.45 p.m. instead of 01.00 p.m as scheduled," he informed.

He stated that he had tried to find some alternative means of transport to reach the inauguration venue by 04.00 p.m. at the State Palace in Jakarta.

However, the helicopter, which was supposed to carry him to Jakarta, was also late due to a technical problem, he revealed.

"The helicopter which was to pick me up was supposed to land in Purwokerto from Halim (Perdanakusuma Airport) at 02.30 p.m., but it only took off from Purwokerto en route to Jakarta at 03.00 p.m.," he elaborated.

The helicopter had to stop in Cirebon, West Java, for refueling. Consequently, it landed at the Army Headquarters near the State Palace at 04.45 p.m., he said.
