REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Finnish energy company Fortum will explore investment opportunities in the renewable energy sector in Indonesia.

The intention was voiced by Fortum Investment Vice President Pasi Mikkonen while paying a courtesy call on Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla, here, Friday.

"We are here to personally explore various potential areas of investment in the field of renewable energy. Earlier, we had been engaged in the biomass field in several other countries," Mikkonen remarked.

The company plans to invest in major cities that are still facing a power deficit. Fortum will likely invest in wind or solar power plants.

Mikkonen stated that Fortum usually invested in three to five power plants in a country.

Over the last seven years, Fortum has invested more than two billion euros in the renewable energy sector in many countries, including seven European nations.
