REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Anti-Narcotics Agency (BNN) has destroyed 15.4 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, 14 ecstasy pills, and 240.2 grams of hashish in the front yard of its headquarters, here, Wednesday.

"The confiscated narcotics being destroyed today were seized during five raids conducted by the BNN in March and April, with 10 suspects being arrested," Deputy Chief of BNN Inspector General Arman Depari stated.

The ten suspects include two Chinese nationals identified by the initials, LYL and LCY. The eight other suspects are Indonesians.

In line with the existing Indonesian laws, the suspects are liable to face life imprisonment or even capital punishment.

This year, the Attorney General's Office has planned the third wave of executions of death row inmates involved in drug offenses.

In 2015, the Attorney General's Office had executed 14 death row inmates.

The BNN has expressed its support to the government's decision to execute drug-related death row prisoners.

The country has 4.5 million drug addicts, who need rehabilitation. Some 1.2 million drug addicts are in such dire straits that even rehabilitation is no longer an option for them.

Indonesia has declared a zero-tolerance stance against drugs, particularly drug traffickers and syndicates, Indonesian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna Rachmat Budiman affirmed.

The ambassador made the statement during a speech at the 59th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs held in Vienna, Austria, recently.

The production, smuggling, and use of drugs pose a serious threat to Indonesia as they affect the country's economic and social life, Budiman pointed out.

He noted that Indonesia had been on the radar of drug traffickers and syndicates, and their networks, spread across the country, have targeted the younger generation.

Therefore, the government is determined to enforce laws firmly against drug criminals, he added.
