REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TIMIKA -- Deputy Chairman of Commission VII of the House of Representatives Fadel Muhammad believes that the plan to construct steam and gas power plants (PLTU/PLTMG) in Timika is highly strategic and should be realized soon.

"It is very strategic, so we continue to push for the realization of the projects soon," Fadel affirmed here, Tuesday.

Fadel and more than 10 other legislators are on a working visit to Papua and held a meeting with Mimika District Head Eltinus Omaleng on Monday, among other things.

In the evening, the legislators met officials of the state-owned electricity company PLN Regional office for Papua and West Papua to discuss two power plant projects.

Since 2008, the government had planned to construct a 4x7 megawatt (MW)-capacity PLTU and a PLTMG, with a capacity of 2x20 MW, in Timika, the capital of Mimika.

The projects were stalled due to land acquisition problems.

Fadel, former governor of Gorontalo, called on the Papua and West Papua authorities to help provide facilities and simplify the bureaucratic process for investors planning to develop projects in the provinces.
